What are the latest developments in the parent sponsorship program?
The parent sponsorship program has seen a number of recent developments in Canada. In early February, the government announced that it would increase the amount of sponsorship visas. Additionally, the Canadian government has created a new online application process for sponsoring parents. This new system is supposed to be more efficient and accessible for sponsors. Finally, the Canadian government is also considering expanding the number of countries from which candidates can sponsor their parents and grand parents.
What is the process for obtaining a parent sponsorship visa?
In order to apply for a parent sponsorship visa one must submit the interest in sponsorship form. This is a long process and takes upto two years or 39 months. For example if you have submitted the sponsor form in 2020 then you will be invited to apply by 2022. And the fees to submit the sponsor form is $1080. The country will check your eligibility to sponsor your parents and grandparents.
The Govt of Canada had called for potential sponsors between 12-20 October 2022. The government has invited 23,100 potential sponsors out of which 15,000 applications have been completed by the last date of submission. However the application forms are closed now, and the country is not entertaining any application forms for now.
Process after you get invited
If you are invited to apply for the sponsorship of your parents and grandparents then you must have these these two applications:
- Sponsorship Application
- Permanent residence application
Once these applications get approved you have to sign an undertaking agreement with the Govt of Canada and the person you are sponsoring becomes a permanent resident of Canada from that very day.
What if you are not invited?
If you’ll not been invited for the application then they can apply for a super-visa which allows your parents and grandparents to stay with you for a period of 5 years at a time. And if they are staying their on a super-visa then they are eligible for extension of 2 years.
What are the eligibility requirements?
As this sponsorship provides a permanent resident Visa to the person, so the Canadian Government has an eligibility criteria for the applicants.
So, the goes on like this:-
- Firstly you are invited to apply
- Your age must be 18 or more
- you stay in Canada
- You must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act
- You must have enough money to support the people you want to sponsor
- You must have a valid income proof to show that you be able to support the people you want to sponsor show that you have enough, you’ll have to provide your proof of income
- You may have a spouse or common-law partner co-sign to combine your incomes
