Canadians Coming back From South Africa: Canada has temporarily updated rules for Canadians coming back from South Africa without undergoing a COVID-19 test in a third country.
Canadian citizens and South African residents can take pre-departure tests in South Africa if they meet all of the following admission requirements on the Government website: Firstly, Prior to departure, You have to get a negative COVID19 molecular test. It has to be from a South African accredited laboratory. It should be within 48 hours of scheduled departure. Also, you can get a positive test result 14-180 days before departure. Secondly, the Lufthansa flight should be departing before December 13, 2021, from Johannesburg or Cape Town to Frankfurt. Lastly, travel to Canada by direct flight from Lufthansa or Air Canada, pass Frankfurt Airport.

The Canadian government made changes on Saturday night after Canadians opposed the new travel rules. As many said they couldn’t return to their homeland because they had to take a test in a third country. Canada enforced the rules after the emergence of Omicron variants. So far, travelers from these 10 countries cannot enter Canada

- Botswana
- Lesotho;
- Egypt;
- Mozambique;
- Zimbabwe.
- Eswatini;
- Nigeria;
- South Africa; and
- Malawi;
Transport Minister Omar Argabra tweeted four flow charts on Friday that provide visual guidance on new travel measures. Regardless of vaccination status, Canadians returning from any of the 10 banned countries would be quarantined upon their arrival. You will also need to have a COVID-19 test upon arrival at the airport and on the 8th day of quarantine.
Travelers vaccinated from all countries except the United States will undergo immigration and quarantine till proven negative. If the result is positive, they should remain quarantined for 10 days.
Unvaccinated travelers from countries other than the United States who are permitted to enter Canada will be quarantined at home for 14 days. However Eligible Canadians can undergo a COVID-19 test in South Africa if their flight departs before December 13.
