Updates on the application processing timelines during COVID

Immigration Refugees Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has recently said that due to the COVID-19 the immigrant may get some delay in the processing of their immigration applications. In the present scenario, the department of immigration is prioritizing the processing of the immigration applications only for those who are free from all the travel restrictions. Application processing for different categories:

Permanent residence

Immigration Refugees Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is working to process most applications that are on permanent residency. IRCC also said that the application processing under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) may be received by the immigrants between May 24, 2021, and May 30, 2021. Basically, the decision-makers are still working on applications that are received by immigrants about ten months ago.

PR Cards

The applicant who is applying for a permanent residence card in Canada can check their application status by using the Online status tool. This is applicable to everyone who is applying for a new PR card or for the PR card renewal. According to IRCC rules, the applicant should have all the important documents and their identification details with them so that they can log in easily. Currently, the new PR cards are being processed by the department in almost 125 days, and the renewal of PR cards may take about 80 days.

Citizenship

For the application processing of the citizenship, the applicant is categorized under two categories:

For the applicants who have received the Acknowledgment of Receipt (AOR) letter, the IRCC status is that they will be finalizing the processing of applications that are received between March 31, 2019, and April 6, 2019, and for the applicants who waiting to receive their AOR, The IRCC status is that they are sending letters for applications that are received in the week of January 21, 2021.

  • Proof of Citizenship

IRCC status for this is that they will first check the client’s application status using an online status tool and the application processing for this time is 6 months.

Family

Students

Currently, Immigration Refugees Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is finalizing most of the study permit applications that are received between the dates December 13, 2020, and December 19, 2020. It basically includes the applications that are for study permits, or for study permit extensions, and for the work permits for the students living in Canada.  The complex application processing may take a longer time to process.

According to the travel restrictions, the study permit holders are only able to come to Canada if they are going to learn in the Designated Learning Institution with the approval of the COVID-19 readiness plan, or if they had their study permit approved before March 18, 2020.

Visitors

If the applicant has applied for the Visitor Visa via online mode, then the applicant can sign in to their account to check the status of their application.  And if the applicant has applied for the visitor visa via offline mode, then in that case the applicant can link their application to the online account where the applicant will be able to track the status of their application.
