Updates about NOC 2021
NOC stands for National Occupation Classification. It is a system used by Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to categorize every individual’s occupation based on skill. It plays a vital role in immigration plans. As one is awarded a certain score based on the level or skill of the job in the express entry. Till now NOC 2016 was in place, according to which occupations were divided into five categories. These were Skill Type 0, Skill Level A, B, C, or D.
Moreover, as of NOC 2016, people with NOC codes from Skill Level O, A, or B could only apply for express entry. However, now the TEER system is applicable which stands for training, education, experience, and responsibilities. Simply, the difference between the two is that the TEER system has six skill levels. Skill level B in NOC 2016 is now split into two different levels in the TEER system. As a result, 16 new occupations became eligible for express entry and 3 became ineligible.
Additionally, these 16 occupations include truck drivers as well. This means that truck can now submit their file for Canadian PR through express entry. Furthermore, this industry is facing a shortage of skilled truck drivers. One of the reasons for this is layoffs during the pandemic. Apart from this, a large number of people in this industry are aged. So, retirements are also a reason for shortages in the industry.
